Mihály Veres is an IT engineer, an expert in digital strategy and business innovation, and the founding President of Hungary’s Electronic Payment Service Providers Association (EFISZ). For more than two decades, he has worked on digital solutions for payments and public services, as well as the development of platforms that connect multiple participants.
He has contributed to R&D and systems development projects in Hungary and internationally, particularly in digital payments, mobility, intelligent transport systems and digital public services. Building on his engineering and systems development experience, his work has increasingly focused on the creation and strategic development of complex digital systems, platforms and service ecosystems.
From 2013 to 2026, he served as Chief Executive Officer of National Mobile Payment Plc., where he led the creation and further development of Hungary’s National Mobile Payment System. Launched in 2014, the nationwide system expanded from mobile parking payments and road toll services to include mobile ticketing for public transport. A key achievement of his tenure was building digital infrastructure and a partnership model that connect public service providers, businesses and millions of users.
EFISZ was established in 2017 on his initiative. As President, he strengthens cooperation among banks, fintech firms, telecommunications companies and technology providers. He also works to bring Hungary’s experience in digital payments into the European industry dialogue.
He approaches digitalisation as a business and economic issue with implications for competitiveness, as well as a technological one. He examines how technological and regulatory changes reshape markets, the strategic responses available, and how to build partnerships, platforms and services that create sustainable economic value.
His current work centres on the relationship between digital payments, platforms and ecosystems, and economic competitiveness. He focuses in particular on the expected impact of instant payments, the digital euro and regulatory changes in Europe, and on the new strategic, market and partnership opportunities that can be developed in response.
